Ride 209 Friday 22nd July 2011

Dear Members,

This Friday's ride flyer is attached.  The ride was moved a week back to allow the D Shift guys to get out on a ride, after a lot of negotiation by Dale.  As some of you know Dale is hobbling around after a work accident.

The ride leaves at Diamond Creek with Eric leading and having morning tea at Yea   After that they head back south to the St Andrews Hotel for lunch.

The weather looks like it will be a fine day.  So come along and see how many D shift members it takes to change a ride calendar...

I wont be there, my bike is currently in a warm factory being disassembled for all its shiny new parts.  I may see you at lunch though.

I hope to see you there.

June overnighter

Dear Members,
The Club Winter Overnighter will he held on Sunday 26th June, 2011.
The bookings will be managed primarily by email.  Make your payment by transfer or tell me 'credit card' and I'll do the rest.

Details on how to book are in the Flyer!

We will be leaving from Bayswater McDonalds and heading north before making our way west for lunch in the general Seymour area.  The last part of our ride will head down into Ballarat mid to late afternoon.  We cant check in until after 4pm.

We are staying at the same resort we stayed at last year.  We have beaten last years price of $45 down to $35, which is senstational for the standard of accomodation we will experience. Dinner will either be at the local hotel or at the local bowls club which is a 5 minute drive depending on what you all tell me when you book. We can then return to the ressort for the Assen Moto GP.

There are limits on some types of accommodation available, so book early.
The flyer with the details is attached.

Ride 206. Sunday 17th April 2011

Dear Members,
KP - in his unofficial capacity of 'scouter and assessor of all roads in Victoria to see how good they would be to ride' - has been hard at work (possibly doing a little official work at the same time) to bring you the this Sunday's ride.

Starting at Tullamarine Maccas, we're heading to the west of Melbourne's ever expanding metropolis to experience some great roads and excellent riding.  KP will lead the ride back to Tullamarine Maccas for the finish, so everyone will start and finish close to home.

The weather is forecast to be perfect for the day (22°C & sunny) and KP will make sure it's a great day's ride.
So do your pre-flight checks and come along & enjoy some fantastic roads.

Vice President / Secretary

Important Update;

Amendment to ride calender

Due to unforeseen circumstances the Friday 15th July 2011 ride has been changed to 22nd July 2011.

Please adjust your own records

The ride calendar has been amended Here

Ride 204. Friday 18th March 2011

Dear Members,
After the success of the Pollieville trip, again managing to avoid the rain for the ride up and back, we had to follow up with a ride up another snow mountain.  This time to Mt baw Baw.  We will be heading off from Narre Warren  making our way north to the Noojee area before making our way up to the Mt Baw baw visitor area for lunch.

After lunch an easy, but fun, spurt down the mountain, back through Noojee and Powelltown to finish up at Yarra Junction.

It should be a great ride, and I hope to see you there.

Ride 203.  Friday 4th February 2011

Dear Members,
After years and years of wondering, one of the great roads, cursed with a middle section of dirt has finally been sealed.  Urban myths of councils at war over boundaries have been smashed.  Finally the Eildon - Jamieson Road will allow all the FLT riders to make their way to Jamieson for lunches.

The ride will leave Bayswater McDonalds with a mystery leader.  The flyer may give you a hint - or not…
We will head out on some great motorcycle roads before heading to Eildon and across to Jamieson for a pub lunch - as recommended by the local constabulary.

It should be a great ride, and I hope to see you there.

Dear Members,
The Pollieville Ride will be run on the weekend of Friday 18th February, to Sunday 20th February.  We will again be heading up to the Mt Beauty Holiday Park.

The ride is still being worked out, and there may be two rides like we did last year.
The ride flyer is attached.  It has the details for booking with Steve Pascoe before the 28th January, 2011.  The accomodation will be in the units and once again the accomodation will be allocated on a first-in best-dressed basis.

The costs are almost the same as last year with couples (non sharing) at $115 per head, and singles at $100 per head.  This is great value considering it includes one BBQ dinner and two breakfasts, leaving only one night's meal to be arranged.

The ride will be leaving from Bayswater.  Once we have all the bookings and work out the various styles of riders the rides will be developed into a suitable format.

So, if you're coming along get onto Steve Pascoe 0411130664 and book so you don’t miss out.
We will be arranging some cold refreshments to be there on arrival.
All the details are in the flyer, but if you still have questions send us an email or call Steve.
We hope to see you there.

President/ Ride Captain

Dear Members,
The ride calendar for the first half of 2011 is
here!  The first ride is only a week away but it was on last year's calendar - so no excuses.

For the first time in the club's history we have as many Sunday rides as Friday rides for the year.  So to all the Monday to Friday crew: time to get your act together and get out on the rides.  We have put in what you have asked for.

Pollieville 2011 is the 18th - 20th February, at Mt Beauty.  Put it in your diary if you're coming.
The Birthday Bash will be moved back closer to the middle of the year, as some of you have asked for.  It will be held Friday 12th August. Pencil it in!

I have recently been told that Mt Baw Baw had some type of eatery available.  I will try and find out more, but if you have some info let me know. If it is, we may run the Sunday ride in March there.

As always if you would like to run a ride, or if you have any ideas for rides please give me a call and we'll see what we can organise.  I'm also looking for ideas for the winter overnighter, if you have any.

I hope to see you out on some rides.

Dear Members,

The next Sunday ride is here and it's the last FLT ride before Christmas.
Steve Pascoe is leading this ride, and with it being on a Sunday, in December and with the chance of good weather (not to mention a Diamond Creek start) he couldn't be happier!  Full of Christmas spirit we are heading to the Flowerdale Hotel for lunch, where friends and family are welcome to meet us (just let Steve know at the start).

Details per the flyer....

I hope to see you there.

Frontline Tourers

200th Ride.

 Flyer here..Ride #200 is Friday 8th October 2010.

Dear Members,
After 17 years the club has amassed  a marvellous 199 rides, exploring roads all over the Melbourne area.  Smiles, friendships, marriages, children, breakdowns, roadside repairs and falloffs all entrenched into our club's history.

We have made our 200th club day ride.  Yes 200 DAY rides. Not including overnighters; interstaters, Lager Frenzies.  Just our day rides.  More kilometres travelled than Harley Davidson could even contemplate.

So come along on our 200th ride replicating faithfully the club's first ride.  Except the dirt between the spurs; the ride from Oakleigh; the end meeting at the Academy; and of course those now vintage bikes that turned up.  Everything else will be the same… honestly!

We anticipate being at the Home Hotel - launching Place Hotel, Warburton Hwy and Don Road, launching Place for lunch at about 1pm.  The ride will finish at the hotel with a social flavour to it.  So even if you cant make the ride come up for lunch.

We will be producing a commemorative polo shirt for the event.  There will only be one chance to get one of these collectors items.  Please contact Scott on the club's email address if you want to order one.

The next event will be the clubs Birthday Bash on Friday 22nd October, 2010.  The flyer will be out shortly.
I hope to see you for the 200th ride.  It will be a great ride, with a long lunch to reminisce.

Ian Marr
President/ Ride Captain

Dear Members,

As we've already flagged, the club's 200th ride is happening next month.  The route will be no secret but the flyer will follow shortly.

To commemorate this historic occasion and in what is a return to tradition the club is having commemorative T-shirts made to celebrate this very significant milestone.

The T-shirts will be the cool-dry type polo shirt, with the club emblem embroidered on the left breast and the 200th ride wording on the right.  They will be on sale for $25 each, with an extra cost (TBA) for postage if it can't be sent by the DX system or picked up from a committee member.

Sizing is the same as the existing cool-dry polo shirts, and we'll need to know how many T-shirts you want in which sizes.

Orders are strictly by return e.mail only, as per the club email already sent out to members. If you did not receive that email and wish to order a T-shirt please contact the club.

We will endeavour to have the shirts available for the 200th ride (on the 8th of October) but attendance at the 200th ride is not a requirement to order a t-shirt!

We hope to see you on the 200th ride.

Scott McLean
Secretary / Vice President

Ride number 199 is Sunday  12th September, 2010. Flyer here!

The next club ride is this Friday.  Eric Belot and Dale Hendy will be teaming up to lead us on a ride in the northern areas with lunch to be decided at a hotel or bakery/cafe, dependent on the weather. Flyer here!

The important thing however is that this is ride number 198.  So the Club’s 200Th ride will be coming up soon on the 8thof October.  We are arranging commemorative Polo shirts for the ride (more details about that in due course).  So if you have the chance to come along get it onto your calendar early.  I am going to lead the ride, which will take in the Spurs in the tradition of our 1st and 100th  club ride.

I hope to see you at both rides.

Your committee for 2010 / 2011 was decided at the 2010 FLT AGM held on 12 July 2010, and I'd like to welcome Dale Hendy (Firefighter, MFB), Ken Peterson (KP) (L/S/C, VicPol) and our webmaster Richard Corrigan (Richy C) (LSC, VicPol) to the committee.  For the first time in many years the committee is full, with Dale, Ken & Richard joining Mal Cooper and Steve Pascoe (who were both re-elected) as our five general committee members.  The other members of the committee are the office holders; President & Ride Captain Ian Marr, who has been elected as president for his third and final year in the role and Steve Mole, who has been returned as Treasurers & Membership Officer.  Having done the maximum three years as president I have been elected to the combined role of Vice-President & Secretary.

I look forward to working with Dale, KP & Richy C, as well as Steve, Mal, Moley & Ian to make the FrontLine Tourers an even stronger & more dynamic club in the future.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Andrew Bills (who did not seek re-election to the committee) for his time, energy and efforts in managing the club's merchandise over the last several years.  He has done a mighty job in both sourcing new items and selling them. Thanks B2 (and Tina).

Also, I'd like to thank Geoff Kan (who resigned from the committee part way through the year) for his efforts as Membership Officer.  Geoff administered the club's move to three year memberships, did (and does) great recruiting in the MFB, and dragged the database kicking and screaming into the 21st century!  Thanks Geoff (and Bec).

Dear Members,

The next Friday ride is the 16th July, 2010.  We are heading out from the Bayswater McDonalds into the Dandenong Ranges.  From there we will make our way around the hills and will be stopping at the Beechworth Bakery in Healsville for morning tea.  After that we will make our way back into the hills, finally back to Toolangi for lunch.

After lunch there will be a short ride for those still warm enough,  back into Lilydale to finish off at around 3pm.

We hope to see you there. Flyer here!

Annual General Meeting

7.00pm Monday 12th July 2010

Dear Members,

Please be advised that the Front Line Tourers 2010 Annual General Meeting is to be held on the 12th of July 2010, at the Victoria Police Academy, View Mount Road, Glen Waverley.

All members are invited to attend.

It is to be held in the 'C' block lecture theatre (the usual location) at 7 pm, and should run for no more than half an hour.

We will then be heading to the Village Green Hotel for a meal and catch-up.

As usual, the 2010 / 2011 committee will be appointed, so if you want to have a say as to who is leading the club for the next year you need to be there.  Members are reminded that per the club's rules proxy votes are not permitted.

If you were unlucky and missed the ride to Ballarat it was another great success with two full days of riding.

Day one was nearly 400km from Diamond Creek to Ballarat where we arrived at exactly 4pm - check in time!  Sylvia arrived at 4.03pm with the esky of cold beer.  Which after perfect timing resulted in a long and social pre dinner chat, before a great meal at the hotel and returning to the common room where the drinks and talk continued until bedtime.

Day two saw those true bunnies following Ian on a ride from Ballarat to Bacchus Marsh of about 400km!!  This ride headed to the GOR for one of the clearest and best runs we have had on it.  With the VTR-SP2 hammering along pushing the underpowered GS before heading back up for a coffee and finish at the Maccas in Bachus Marsh.

Good work to those who made the effort.  The weather and roads were a great reward for your troubles.
It is true, Ian has been crying since the weekend after when Valentino Rossi ended his run of 230 successive races when he broke a bone in his leg........ Lucky that didn’t happen one week early, he would have been not good company at all.

Don’t forget our AGM is coming up on Monday 12th July 2010.  Make the effort to come, we have a lot to go over!

Dear Members,

The next club ride is Friday 4th June, 2010.  We will be leaving from Narre Warren McDonalds and heading down to the lovely South Gippsland area.  Moley has nominated Mirboo - he thinks - as our lunch destination. Flyer here!

Remember to bring your warm gear: we are into winter and it can get cold at the best of times in the areas we will be heading into.

The ride is expected to finish at Cranbourne about 4pm.

We hope to see you there.

Dear members

A ride from Melbourne to Canberra via Merimbula is being organised for September, 2010.  This ride is named the ‘Wall to Wall Ride’. It is designed to raise funds for policy legacy as well as remembering those who have been killed on duty.  It is hoped it will become an annual event.

The Victorian ride will depart September 17, 2010 and head to Merimbula overnight. The riders from all states will meet on the outskirts of Canberra on Saturday, September 18, 2010 and ride to the memorial together via Parliament House.  This ride is for all motorcyclists to participate and remember police officers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. All FLT riders are invited to participate including members from the other agencies and our affiliate members.

There is a website detailing the ride and what you need to do to register.  Ian Marr is considering making the trip home over two days, so anyone interested in a fun ride up, backed up with a super ride home let Ian know.  If you intend to come along it is worth contacting Ian or Scott so we may be able to get you shared accommodation with other members.

If you are coming, accommodation will need to be sought soon as there will be a large influx into Merrimbula that night and it is up to you to arrange your own accommodation, whether motel, caravan park cabin, or tent.

Dear Members,

The Club Winter Overnighter will he held on Sunday 30th May, 2010.  (A previous ride calendar had a different date, however the 30th is the correct date for the ride.)

We will be leaving from Diamond Creek McDonalds and heading north before making our way west for lunch. The last part of our ride will head down into Ballarat mid to late afternoon.

We are staying at the same resport we stayed at last year. Unfortunately we cant get the massive discounts of last year but still got reasonable rates  especially for the type of accomodation we will be enjoying  (at $45 per head).

Dinner will either be at the local hotel which is walking distance, or at the local bowls club which is a 5 minute drive. This will be based on what you all tell me when you book.

There are limits on the amount of  accomodation  available, so book early. Bookings can be made to me by phone and the cut off date is Tuesday 18th May, 2010 .

I hope to see you there. Flyer Here!

Dear Members,
The next Sunday ride is Sunday 2nd May - this Sunday.  We will be leaving from a different start location.
It is the McDonalds at Mickleham Road, Tullamarine.  It is easy to get to - just go up the Tullamarine Freeway, take the Mickleham Road exit, just before the airport.  You will find McDonalds there.  There is fuel nearby to the McDonalds too.

The ride will be leaving at 10am.  We ask that you be there at 9.45 so we can brief you and get away on time.

There will be a BBQ lunch at Gisborne.  If the weather is no good we will have lunch at a nearby café.

The ride is approximately 152 km's in length.  Yes - approximately 152 kms?  It will be made up of mostly 70 to 80 KPH advisory bends with a few 30 to 60 KPH advisory and two 10 KPH advisory bends that  aren't actually that bad on Mt Macedon Road.

So if you are coming - don’t forget the start is different from the original ride calendar.  Mickleham Road, Tullamarine 9.45am.

Dear Members,
Here is the flyer for the 2010 Front Line Tourers Pollieville event, which is being held on the 12th, 13th and 14th of February 2010.

This year we are heading back to Mt Beauty and the Mt Beauty Holiday Centre, where the club has always been warmly received.  As you know it's a beautiful area that's in the middle of some of the best motorcycling roads in Victoria.  Also, there's plenty for the kids to do at the Holiday Centre and plenty to do in the area if you don't want to ride on the middle day.

Bookings must be made by the 29th of January, and details on how to book and pay are in the flyer!
It should be a great event with some brilliant riding, and I look forward to seeing you there.

24/10/2009

Dear Members,
It is with much regret that I advise members of the death this afternoon of Frank Bangham, long time and much loved club member.

Only last week he had made known his diagnosis with cancer and a prognosis that gave him a few months to live.  To have him pass away so soon is a shock and tragedy, made only slightly more bearable in that he got to say goodbye to his family before the end.

Frank was 63 years old and he died with his family and friends at his side.

Funeral arrangements will be passed on when they are known, but it is expected that the funeral will be on Thursday.  Front Line Tourers members are encouraged to attend as it is Phil's wish that club members ride in the funeral procession, such was Frank's affection for and commitment to the club.

Scott McLean
President

Dear Members,

09/10/2009.
Earlier this we
ek your committee learnt of the death of Debbie White, wife of co-founder Peter White.

Michael and Peter White set up the club 16 years ago, and their commitment was matched by the support of their wives Lisa and Debbie.  Long-time members will remember Debbie attending just about every club function, of being great fun to be around and a great supporter of Peter and the club.  She is survived by Peter and their children Brent, Jake, Troy and Dane.

Debbie was diagnosed with cancer some time ago and on Monday she passed away.

Some club members are attending the funeral today (friday) and representations have been made on members' behalf to the extended family.

2009 Ride Calendar

As some of you may have heard there have been a few changes to the Ride Calendar for 2009.
These are to try and accommodate the requests for more Sunday rides for those less able to get to the weekday events.

The second change we have introduced  is a new start location at the McDonalds in Main Street , Diamond Creek.
We hope this gives us a far better reach into the northern areas to ride.  Hopefully this will work well.

We are heading out from Narre Warren McDonalds, through the Dandenongs and making our way back to the Cardinia Reservoir Reserve for a BBQ lunch and soft drinks (supplied by the club).

In keeping with the ride's name and in the Christmas spirit, all we ask is that each person attending bring along a gift that is suitable to be given to a child in hospital.  They will be collected at lunch and passed on before Christmas.

2008 November Overnighter

The club overnighter is on Tuesday and Wednesday the 11th and 12th of November, 2008.
Please note it is one day earlier than shown on the ride calendar.
The ride will start from the McDonalds at Narre Warren at 9am. We will be heading north to start up the Black Spur to Marysville for morning tea. From there a run down the Reefton to Warburton for fuel. We head out to Noojee and then onto Erica for a lunch at the general store (pies, sausage rolls etc).

We then make our way further south eventually arriving at Yarram for the night.
We are staying at a Caravan park in cabin accommodation and dinner is about a 400m walk (according to Billsy). So any of you who've been on his rides will know to bring your best hiking boots, or a cab charge...!

Day two we will have brekky at the local bakery then wind our way across the Gippsland area to Leongatha, then up to Drouin before a cruise up the highway to Pakenham, or thereabouts, to finish off.

Protest Ride - TOLLING FOR MOTORCYCLES

Dear Members,

A protest ride has been arranged for Saturday, July 5, 2008, and is being promoted to relevant clubs by Damien Codognotto.  This e.mail and the ride are supported by your committee, but members should be aware that this is not an official club ride.

The primary focus is to protest against road tolls (e.g. Eastlink’s) for motorcycles, but also will include a petition to abolish the unjust $56 a year TAC tax too. Front ID for motorcycles & scooters is another big issue on this protest run as well.

As motorcyclists we use far less fuel, take up less space, cause virtually no road damage and finally most of us have a bike as a second registration.

If there is enough interest there are plans to have stands at the bike expo and the OZ GP to collect more signatures against the TAC tax. The petition will be given to an MP to present to Parliament, probably on November 12, 2008.

The assembly area for the ride will be the Doncaster Park. (Melway reference 46 K1.)  The ride will leave at 10 am.  The destination is the Frankston Civic Centre, in Davey Street Frankston. (Melway reference 100A C9.)

TOLLING FOR MOTORCYCLES is a first in this country and your committee feels that it should be resisted.  If you feel this is an issue worth supporting make the effort and come along - it may be your only free ride on the Eastlink

If there is enough interest we will arrange a sausage sizzle brekky beforehand in Doncaster.  If you are thinking about coming along let me know via email (ianmarr@optusnet.com.au) or phone 0412 618 125.
